IMPACT Rotary members stepped up to help load up “Elves” cars with frozen turkeys or fish and all the fixings for a Holiday feast as part of Holiday Hamper. About The Program | Holiday Hamper Edmonton.
The Holiday Hamper Program brings joy to Edmonton families who need it most. Community members joined together as Holiday Hamper Elves, adopting local families and shopping for their festive meals. Using a defined grocery list, they fill hampers with holiday essentials, while we provide turkeys and fresh fixings. It all comes together on Delivery Day, when Elves deliver joy right to families' doors.
This year 2200 families were given a brighter festive season with the hampers provided. The day of hamper distribution – Saturday December 20, IMPACT members Wayne McCutcheon, Pepe Villareal, Len Chanasyk, Marilyn Mucha and friend Danny Maradyn braved the cold for the 4 hours outside the EXPO center along with 300 + other volunteers to load up the cars streaming through the 4 lanes of 10 stations each to efficiently load cars to be delivered to the needy families.
This was a very satisfying service project that made everyone smile.

During his visit to Uganda, President Arif met Dr. Oscar Ogwang, who trained in Edmonton through support from our club. Now working with vulnerable communities in northern Uganda, Dr. Ogwang continues to live the Rotary spirit — and his journey is still unfolding...

Our Club President Arif Alibhai recently met with Dr. Arnold Kibuuka (centre), a pediatrician from Uganda who trained in Edmonton through support from the Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Sunrise. Today, Dr. Kibuuka continues to make an incredible impact, not only as a pediatrician, but also as the founder of a kindergarten in Kampala serving children with special needs. He shared how his time with Rotarians in Edmonton inspired his ongoing commitment to service and community development.
Also pictured (right) is Rotarian David Ggava, who visited our club in June. During Arif’s visit, David joined him in touring Arnold’s school, and his home club, the Rotary Club Of Kasubi, will now be supporting Arnold’s work locally.
From Edmonton to Kampala, this is what Rotary fellowship and sustainable impact look like.
