The 50th playground built in Belize through the Rotary International District 5370 Playground Program is now complete, and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield was proud to be part of it.

Since 2009, Rotary Clubs across District 5370 have partnered with Mission to Children (Hope Mission) to bring safe, developmental play spaces to thousands of children in Belize.

This milestone project took place in Ladyville, near the airport in Belize City, beside a school that faces annual flooding during the rainy season. For the children there, this playground is more than equipment, it’s stability, joy, and a space to simply be kids.

The Rotary Club of Edmonton led the project and contributed funding and volunteers, working alongside fellow Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Wainwright, Rotary Club of Fort McMurray Oilsands, and IMPACT Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield, through remaining YEG Passport Rotary Club funds.

IMPACT member Marilyn Mucha joined a 14-member team for her first playground build. Over four days (with cooler-than-usual weather on their side) volunteers worked together to bring the project to life. Members of the Rotary Club of Belize were also on hand, strengthening the fellowship that makes these builds so meaningful.

A heartfelt thank you to Francis Woods and the Rotary Club of Belize for their continued partnership and support.

Fifty playgrounds represent thousands of smiles, and a powerful reminder of what happens when Rotary takes action together.
