It has been a busy few weeks!

 

On October 18 a group of members visited Government House to present Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani with a Paul Harris award for promotion of our club. We received a tour of Government House and were treated to tea and cookies at the conclusion of our visit.

 

On October 19, Dr. Deidre Duffy spoke to the club about the work she and Dr Lanice Jones do in East Africa to provide Point of Care Ultrasound Training. On successful completion of the training, local professionals are certified with the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society, which is regarded to have the highest training standard. This will allow them to conduct training in the future. Dr. Duffy asked us to consider investing with the Rotary Club of Camrose potential purchase of portable ultrasound machines to be used in the training programs.

 

We were also excited to hear that Project Shelter Wakadogo, which had been supported by the club in its infancy, was awarded the $50,000 World's Best School Prize for Overcoming Adversity. With the prize PSW will set up a community computer literacy program.

 

Then on October 22, Carisa and Maureen joined with Rotarians throughout the district to 'Build a Bed' for Ukrainian newcomers with Sleep in Heavenly Peace Society http://shpbed.ca

 

Jim, Lorne and Ted are also hard at work putting the finishing touches on Fork It Over, scheduled to take place on November 5th. If you haven't gotten your tickets yet, don't delay!

 

Our meeting on November 2 will feature a presentation by the team from SIHA (Students Invested in Health Association) who completed a project in East Africa and were awarded Buski-Lakhani Bursaries. The club has also committed funds towards a Menstrual Health Chamber at a local school, proposed by the SIHA team. We are excited to evaluate the project once completed. 

 

Also at this meeting, the club will be asked to vote on two motions:

1. Moved by Ted Lelacheur to nominate Jeanette Bancarz  for the office of District Governor of Rotary District 5370 for the 2025-2026 Rotary year.

2. Moved by Maureen Liviniuk to provide funding to Dr Saleh and team for travel to East Africa under the East Africa Medical Program. Funding would be for a maximum of $2500 per person.
