May is Youth Service Month, and we're excited to share all the amazing things that Rotary and its members are doing to make a difference in the lives of young people around the world! 🌟
Throughout the month of May, Rotary clubs, Rotaract, Interact, and those involved in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) and Rotary Youth Exchange will be celebrating the power of service and the impact it can have on young people. From mentoring and leadership development to community service projects and cultural exchanges, there are so many ways to get involved and make a difference.

Past events
On May 3rd we received recognition as a Positive Peace Club at the presentation by Ingrid Neitsch and Miles Dykes. They spoke about the importance of being a positive peace club. Peace is more than just the absence of violence - it's about creating and sustaining societies where everyone can thrive. Through Rotary's partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP), our members have the tools and resources needed to become effective peacebuilders in our communities.
At the board meeting on May 3, approval was given for donations of $1000 each to the Ukrainian Newcomer Furniture Warehouse and the Ukrainian Canadian Social Services.
Lead with Seeds Society
Lead with Seeds, based in Edmonton, is a registered non-profit society in Honduras. They collaborate with the Mayfield Rotary Club in Edmonton, the El Progreso Rotary Club in Honduras, and other non-profits to support development initiatives in Honduras. One of their partnerships is with the Barrio school, which incorporates computer-assisted learning and agricultural resources into the Honduran junior high curriculum. Lead with Seeds focuses on providing education for rural Honduran youth and adults, with an emphasis on schooling and sustainable agroforestry practices.
They are currently preparing to ship supplies to Honduras in the last week of June, with a collection deadline of June 15-18. As the students at the Barrio school lack internet access, the organization is seeking 50 laptops that meet specific hardware requirements to integrate into the school's learning environment.
Our club will be putting forward a motion to purchase Chromebooks for this cause in the next meeting.
Next Meeting
Our next meeting will take place in the 2nd Boardroom at Chateau Nova Yellowhead and will also be available via Zoom. We have a special guest speaker, Louise Colonnier, from Days for Girls, who will be joining us for an enlightening session.
We are proud to share that our club made a generous donation of $1000 to Days for Girls to support their important work. This contribution will be utilized for the purchase of essential supplies that will make a significant impact on the lives of those in need.
