Impact Challenge Funding Announcement!

We are thrilled to announce that Disability Edmonton, the winner of our Impact Challenge, has been awarded $5,000! This funding, along with the connections, guidance, and support from our club, will help them work on a sustainable project that provides a much-needed service in our city.

We also want to extend our deepest appreciation to Rachel for her full support and leadership during this project. The Impact Challenge was Rachel's initiative, and she has been instrumental in making this a reality.

If you would like to join the committee and be part of this impactful initiative, please contact Rachel.

Last Meeting - Healthy Child Uganda

Last week, we had the pleasure of attending a remarkable presentation by Dr. Jenn Brenner at the cardiology rounds at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, hosted by Dr. Zaheer Lakhani. Dr. Brenner, a dedicated and influential figure in global health, has participated many times in our East Africa Medical Program and later founded Healthy Child Uganda to continue providing crucial maternal and child health services.

Her presentation was insightful and inspiring, highlighting her extensive work and the impact of sustained health initiatives in East Africa. After the presentation, we had the opportunity to join Dr. Brenner for lunch and a meaningful conversation about future projects and collaborations.

We are also thrilled to share that Dr. Brenner received the Paul Harris Fellow recognition for her contributions to the Rotary Foundation.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3rd. We are excited to have Mark Wong, Buski-Lakhani Award winner, as our guest speaker. Mark will be discussing the Dental Brigades at the University of Alberta, which he co-founded with Taj Mondair.

This year, 15 volunteers participated in a dental brigade in the rural community of La Paguare, Honduras. During their time there, the volunteers led health education workshops and shadowed licensed dentists to provide dental care to community members.

Self-Care Corner

Life is full of ups and downs, and everyone faces challenges like interpersonal conflicts, physical and emotional pain, loss, and stress. No one is immune to these experiences, and some of us also encounter significant trauma.

This resource supports people in recognizing any unhealthy coping mechanisms they might be using and introduces them to new, beneficial ways to handle life’s inevitable challenges.

How can we tell our story?

If you are working on a project or event or if you want to share your Rotary journey with others, we want to hear about it. And if you attend an event, take pictures or videos and send them to Victoria. We will use these for social media and bulletin posts.

We invite you to join us at an upcoming meeting.
