Next week on March 15th our speaker will be Dr. Lanice Jones who recently conducted Point of Care Ultrasound Training in East Africa. She will talk about this experience and her previous trips to Sudan and northern Canada. The meeting will be in person at the Chateau Nova Yellowhead and also by Zoom.
The Zoom meeting codes for both meetings is Meeting ID: 780 222 3440, Passcode: Mayfield.
The deadline to register for the District Conference is April 12th. This is a reminder that the club will reimburse for member and spouse attending the conference.
Our Successes:
The club awarded a total of $13,500 Buski-Lakhani bursaries to the 9 applicants from Students Invested In Health Association who had applied. These students will be travelling to Tanzania this summer and will report back on the Menstrual Health Chamber project we funded last year.
We also agreed to become a 'Positive Peace' Club and approved a donation to the Rotary Foundation Peace Programs of $500. Ingrid Neitsch has been invited to speak to the club on May 3rd about this initiative.
Club Update:
Our incoming President, Linda, is working on filling the various roles needed to make a difference in our communities and around the world. When she reaches out, give some thought to what you would like to do to make this 'the best darned club in the whole wide world'.
We agreed at our last meeting to conclude our fundraising partnership with Winnifred Stewart Association and seek new opportunities. Everything is on the table, and if you have a great idea for a fundraiser, please bring this forward.
The club also agreed to support the U of A Global Health Fundraiser by purchasing 6 tickets (2 donated by Zaheer). The event helps fund residents and faculty from U of A international partner sites in low and middle income countries, to come to the University of Alberta to further their training; it also helps provide funding for the activities of the
Medical Students Association (MSA) and the
Students Invested in Health Association (SIHA). Linda, Abdul, Jeremiah and Victoria will represent our club and will host Dr. Amendezo and spouse, who are from East Africa. Dr. Amendezo is training at the Royal Alex.
