April is Maternal and Child Health month, and at Rotary, we are committed to making high-quality healthcare available to vulnerable mothers and children. We believe that every child should have the opportunity to live a long and healthy life, and we work tirelessly to expand access to quality care worldwide.
Sadly, an estimated 5.9 million children under the age of five die each year due to malnutrition, inadequate healthcare, and poor sanitation. But we know that these deaths can be prevented, which is why we are so passionate about our work. By providing mothers and children with access to high-quality healthcare, we are helping them to live longer and grow stronger. Together, we can ensure that every child has the chance to thrive and reach their full potential. Happenings:
We were thrilled to host Dr. Jones on March 15 to hear about the incredible work she has been doing as part of the East Africa Outreach Ultrasound Project. Dr. Jones’ presentation was truly inspiring, and we were amazed by the results that her team has achieved in providing access to healthcare for vulnerable communities.
Then on March 18, a few of us were fortunate enough to attend the Global Health Gala hosted by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. It was a great opportunity to network with individuals who are passionate about Global Health.
Next Meeting
Our next meeting will be held April 5th, noon at the Chateau Nova Yellowhead. This will be a business meeting. Topics on the agenda include information from Gayle Head, an event planner who will provide a quote for services to assist with Fork It Over. Also on the agenda is a short presentation from Victoria Celi who will update the club on our social media activity.
Our Virtual Coffee Meeting is planned for April 8th. Since this is the Saturday of a long weekend, Jeanette would like to know if there is interest in changing the date to April 15th. Email Jeanette with your thoughts.
