January is Vocational Services Month in the Rotary world. This month we celebrate projects designed to assist the recipients expand their knowledge in various fields.
We do this in East Africa by supporting medical professionals who travel to East Africa and provide training to local professionals. And we do this in Honduras through our support of Lead with Seeds, a non-profit that has established a training farm and school to teach local students.
Club Update:
Our first meeting of the calendar year was held on January 4th. In attendance was Paul Dusseault from Edmonton Riverview who shared about their project in Ecuador providing cataract surgery. We will discuss in the next few weeks whether we have the capacity to support them.
Also in attendance was Jeff Tetz from Santa YEG who collected a cheque for $16,000 representing donations to the program through the charitable society.
We approved a payment of $13,050 to provide mental health support for the students at Brightview. We also approved payment by the club for attendance for members and partners to attend the district conference.
The meeting this week will be a business meeting and will include a presentation by the Edmonton Community Foundation on Donor Advised Funds as we are considering setting up an endowment fund with excess casino funds.
