Next Meeting 

On December 4, 2024 we will be hosted by the Wings of Providence for lunch from 12-1 pm.  For those attending, we would ask that in lieu of the $30 fee, you consider purchasing $30 or more worth of essential supplies for this women's shelter.  Items needed include shampoo, conditioner, bodywash, toothpaste and sanitary supplies. About WINGS

Since 1987, WINGS has assisted families across central and northern Alberta by supporting women and children who leave situations of domestic abuse, encouraging their healing, personal rebuilding, and their goal of independence.

Families typically stay an average of 6 months at WINGS' second stage shelter, which comprises 20 apartment suites, and about 1-2 years at our Home Next Door building, which has 29 apartment suites.

During this time, women and children participate in support groups and individual counselling sessions, including life-skills and health programs, that support their healing. Their Home Next Door building also has an on-site daycare to support women as they return to work and/or school.

Last Meeting Recap 

At our last meeting, we had the honour of hosting Grace Kallal, President of the Board of Directors at the Fort Edmonton Foundation. Grace captivated us with a fantastic presentation on the rich history of Fort Edmonton Park and shared insights into the Foundation's recent goals and current initiatives.

We are incredibly grateful for Grace's time and passion for preserving and celebrating Edmonton's history. Her dedication to community enrichment left us inspired and eager to learn more about how we can support the Foundation's mission.

Welcome, Mark! 

We are excited to welcome Mark Servito Wong Jr. as our newest member!

Mark is a past recipient of the Buski Lakhani Bursary and has extensive experience in international non-profit global health initiatives. He is a dedicated community builder and a leader in the organizations he serves. Mark is also involved with Global Brigades and works for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Edmonton chapter.

Fundraising Proposal - Action Needed

This is a reminder that the Rotary Clubs of Edmonton Mayfield and Edmonton Sunrise are exploring a collaborative arrangement to expand fundraising efforts, pool resources, and maximize the impact of our shared community and international service projects.

Members from both clubs came together for a brainstorming session focused on creative ways to generate unrestricted funds—essential to sustaining and growing our programs. You can check the details about restricted funds, unrestricted funds, and grants HERE. To move forward, we’ve drafted a Proposal for Collaborative Fundraising, which outlines potential events and strategies.

Maureen has asked that all members take just a few minutes to respond to these questions, even if your response is that you are not able to participate. This will be important moving forward to determine our next steps:

1. Would you like to see a “Fork It Over” or “Planes, Trains and Auctionable” type event annually or bi-annually? Why? What concerns would you like to share?
2. Of the four options proposed, which ones would you be prepared to support by helping on the planning committee, inviting participants, buying tickets and/or sourcing auction items?
3. Are there any ideas listed under Types of Auctions, Complimentary Tasting Experiences and Out-of-the-box Ideas that you think we should explore further?
