Help Us Improve Future Events: Take Our Survey!

After our recent Fork it Over (FIO) event, we need your help to make future events even better. We're asking members and guests to complete a short survey.

Members, please take a moment to respond to the survey whether or not you were able to attend. Your feedback is invaluable for our planning. If you attended and invited guests, please forward the survey to them as well. We'd love to hear their thoughts.

The survey will be open until June 25th.

Last Meeting

On June 5th, we had the pleasure to host Dr. Ogwang Oscar, a general surgery resident from Makerere University in Uganda. Dr. Oscar, who hails from conflict-affected northern Uganda, spoke about establishing surgical camps to support the region's post-war recovery. The surgical camps aim to address unmet surgical needs and rebuild lives in northern Uganda, where the health system has been devastated by prolonged conflict, limited resources, and significant transportation barriers. Dr. Oscar highlighted the immediate health impact of such camps, citing a total of 1407 patients operated on in just four days by a team of 250 surgeons organized by the Association of Surgeons of Uganda last year in the Lango sub-region. Business Meeting

June 19th luncheon meeting HAS BEEN CANCELLED. This meeting has been replaced with Dr. Jenn Brenner presentation and luncheon on June 20th.

Join Us on June 20th for a Special Presentation by Dr. Jenn Brenner

On June 20th, Dr. Jenn Brenner will be speaking at the cardiology rounds at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, hosted by Dr. Zaheer Lakhani. Dr. Brenner has participated many times in our East Africa Medical Program and later founded Healthy Child Uganda to continue providing crucial maternal and child health services.
No RSVP is required for the presentation, which will begin at 11 AM in the Robbins Pavilion Lecture Theatre.

The external entrance to the Robbins Pavilion is on 111 Ave, across from the Glenrose Hospital. Please note that there is no free parking in the area, and paid parking is limited. Dr. Lakhani suggests car-pooling where possible and arriving early.

After the presentation, around 12:30 PM, we will gather at Bravo Pizza and Kitchen, located at 13240 118 Ave, for lunch and a lively discussion. Since space is limited, we ask everyone to click here to reserve your spot.

Brightview BBQ

We are excited to announce that our annual Brightview BBQ will take place on June 26th. This year, the in-coming Principal, Donna Hunter, will be in attendance, and parents are invited to join us at the BBQ to meet her. As a result, this event will be our biggest BBQ ever (anticipating 300 attendees), and we need all hands on deck!

If you can help out, please email Ted.

Self-Care Corner

Are you interested in learning how to support someone who might be facing a mental health challenge or crisis? Check out the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) program by the Canadian Mental Health Association.

MHFA is based on the idea that early intervention can prevent mental health crises like suicidal thoughts and self-harm. By spotting the signs early and knowing how to respond, you can make a real difference. And if a crisis does happen, MHFA gives you the tools to take action and help reduce potential harm.
