Unmaking Period Poverty

Heal International, with the support of our incredible member Arif Alibhai, recently hosted its annual fundraiser on October 21. We're absolutely thrilled to share that the event was a resounding success! Together, we raised over $20,000, and thanks to the generosity of a remarkable donor, an additional $10,000 was contributed! 🌟

You can still be a part of this incredible initiative. It's not too late to make a difference! Click here to contribute to this noble cause. Every donation brings us one step closer to supporting orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda. 🌍

Motions

Moved by Arif Alibhai and seconded by Maureen Liviniuk to have the RCEM act as an agent for the Roncalli International Foundation's grant application for the HEAL International project. YAWE.

Last Meeting Summary

Craig Hughson, Principal at Brightview, spoke about the school's needs. As of September 30, attendance stands at 182, resulting in a funding cut for the 2023-24 academic year, which will impact staffing.

The club has committed to donating $3,500 to the Dollywood Foundation and will receive books from Fort McMurray to be passed on to Brightview. The school is also exploring whether it will be possible to have our annual holiday luncheon in December.

The books were delivered on October 27th, bringing smiles to many faces.

Strategic Planning Session

The Strategic Planning Session was held on October 24th with a small but engaged group participating. Many thanks to Sharon Bell, daughter of Frank and Shirley, who led the session on a Pro Bono basis. The summary takeaways will be shared with the club at our business meeting on Dec 6.

Next Meeting

November is Rotary Foundation Month. During our next meeting on November 1st, we will host DG Brent Collingwood, who will speak about Rotary. This presents a great opportunity to invite potential new members

We are supporting SANTA YEG raising funds for families in need this holiday season, if you would like to donate, here is the link. Volunteer opportunities to follow. Last year, we supported by paying for all the processing costs associated with donations and we will discuss this option at the November 1st Business Meeting.

Your mental well-being is a PRIORITY

Prioritizing our mental well-being is crucial. Daily, simple activities can help us feel better equipped to navigate life. This time we want to share a strategy that focuses on understanding and managing our emotions. It involves giving our feelings attention without judgment. Naming our emotions and identifying their triggers can also be beneficial. Lastly, speaking kindly to ourselves, like we would to a loved one, can provide comfort and support. Try it, and you may find it helpful. Check out more about this strategy and other tips here
