Next Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18th. We'll be gathering in the 2nd floor boardroom, room 232—so please make a note of the location change.

We're thrilled to welcome two very special guests, Carol Bahry and Barbara Olynyk, teachers from the Burundi English School in the heart of Africa. What started as a dream has now blossomed into a thriving school over the past 13 years, and Carol and Barbara will be sharing their inspiring journey with us.

For those who cannot attend in person, the Zoom login for the meeting is Meeting ID 780 222 3440 Passcode Mayfield

Last Meeting Recap

At our last meeting, we had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Ronald Lett, Founder of the Canadian Network for International Surgery (CNIS), who joined us via Zoom. Since 1995, Dr. Lett has been at the forefront of 14 Canadian government-funded projects in Africa, focusing on surgical and obstetrical skills training, as well as injury prevention. He is currently leading the 9-country TTProject in Kenya through CNIS.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to hear from Dr. Lett and learn about the incredible impact of his work!

Indigenous Speaker Series

Our District’s commitment to understanding and building relationships with Indigenous peoples continues with the Indigenous Speaker Series. The very first talk took place on September 5th at Sacred Lands, and we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our club members who were able to attend.

The District Indigenous Committee plays a key role in fostering meaningful and respectful connections with local Indigenous peoples, agencies, and communities. Their mission is to move Rotary’s engagement from a short-term project mindset to long-term partnerships that truly respect and uplift Indigenous communities.

If you'd like to be part of these important conversations, you’re welcome to join upcoming events! Just reach out to Jan Fox to secure your spot.

A Heartwarming Message from Gordon Wilkes

We’re excited to share a touching letter from Gordon Wilkes, recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, who will be joining us as a guest speaker at our October 2nd club meeting.

Gordon is the co-founder of iRSM, and our club proudly supported the project with a donation 25 years ago to help get it off the ground. His journey and the impact of iRSM have been truly inspiring, and we can't wait to hear from him in person.

Self-Care Corner

As the days get shorter and the air gets cooler, it’s important to take extra care of your mental health. Here are a few simple tips to help you stay grounded and positive this fall:

  • Stay Active: Even a short walk in the crisp air can lift your mood and boost your energy.
  • Stay Connected: Reach out to friends or loved ones—it’s easy to feel isolated as the seasons change, but staying in touch can make a big difference.
  • Practice Mindfulness: Take time to pause, breathe, and reflect. Whether it’s journaling or a few minutes of meditation, giving your mind a break is essential.

Remember, fall is a season of change, so be kind to yourself during this time. 🍁
