A Successful "Fork It Over" Event!

"Fork It Over" was a resounding success! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and participated. A special shoutout goes to our dedicated committee and volunteers who made this night possible.

It was an evening filled with laughter, friendship, wine, beer, and immense generosity in support of our causes.  Take a sneak peek at the photos from the event here.

Last  Meeting

On May 15th, we had the pleasure of hearing from Sophia Fairweather, a remarkable fifteen-year-old serial entrepreneur and property owner. It was fantastic to learn about her achievements and how she is inspiring other young people to pursue their dreams.

Next Business Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5th. Dr. Ogwang, who joined us yesterday at FIO, will present his work with medical camps in Uganda to reach underserved populations.  He will talk about his role in providing surgical service at these camps, the successes they’ve had, the challenges they’ve faced and their future plans.

Dr. Oscar Ogwang will be doing a Post Graduate Medical Elective (PGME) from May 16 - June 29, 2024.  He will be supervised by Dr. Abdullah Saleh while here.  Dr. Ogwang's focus is adult and pediatric surgery, especially in the management of trauma as it's one of the causes of mortality related to road traffic accidents. He also wants to learn more about laparoscopic surgery.

For those who cannot attend in person, the Zoom login for the meeting is Meeting ID 780 222 3440 Passcode Mayfield

Impact Challenge Winner

We are happy to announce that Disability Edmonton is the winner of our very first Impact Challenge.

DisabilityEdmonton is a nonprofit initiative dedicated to establishing a central platform for Edmonton's disability community. It aims to provide a one-stop hub for individuals seeking information on events, social groups, programs, and more. By bridging the gap in accessibility and communication, DisabilityEdmonton empowers the disability community to stay informed, connected, and engaged.

Integrity Awards

A big thank you to our club members who represented us at the Integrity Awards Gala Dinner on May 15. This event was a wonderful opportunity to honor and celebrate outstanding community leaders who exemplify Rotary values through their actions and commitments.

We were inspired by all the recipients and were proud to support our nominee, Jason Gregor. Jason has been a tremendous supporter of Brightview Elementary School, contributing over $30,000 to address hunger and help facilitate learning. His dedication truly embodies the spirit of Rotary.

Healthy Child Uganda

On June 20th, Zaheer invited Dr Jenn Brenner from Healthy Child Uganda to speak at the Royal Alex Hospital at 11 am. You may know that Dr Brenner has been involved with our East Africa Medical Program for many years. We are all invited to attend. After the presentation, we plan to organize a lunch with Dr Brenner and present her with a Paul Harris Fellow.

The meeting scheduled for June 19th is cancelled so members can attend this event.

Self-care is more than just pampering; it’s about protecting and improving your health. The World Health Organization defines it as actions to promote health, prevent disease, and manage illness. The International Self-Care Foundation highlights the Seven Pillars of Self-Care: health literacy, self-awareness, physical activity, healthy eating, risk avoidance, good hygiene, and responsible use of health services.
Daily self-care can enhance your well-being. Simple actions like eating well, exercising, quitting smoking, and caring for your mental health make a big difference.

How can we tell our story?

image

If you are working on a project or event or if you want to share your Rotary journey with others, we want to hear about it. And if you attend an event, take pictures or videos and send them to Victoria. We will use these for social media and bulletin posts.

Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
We invite you to join us at an upcoming meeting.
