Last Meeting Highlights: Dental Brigades at the University of Alberta

At our last meeting, we had the privilege of learning about the incredible work of the Dental Brigades at the University of Alberta. The presentation was led by Mark Wong, Buski-Lakhani Award winner and outgoing Dental Chapter Leader, alongside Adam Hollinger, the incoming Dental Chapter Leader.

This year, 15 dedicated volunteers traveled to the rural community of La Paguare, Honduras, to participate in a dental brigade. During their time there, the volunteers led health education workshops and shadowed licensed dentists to provide essential dental care to community members.

Their efforts not only improved the oral health of the local population but also fostered a greater understanding and connection between the volunteers and the community they served. We are inspired by their commitment and look forward to supporting their future initiatives.

Next Meeting

We are thrilled to announce that Timothy Parker, Ph.D., retired Professor Emeritus of Psychology from Augustana University, is back by popular demand!

In his previous talk with us in March, Dr. Parker delved into the definition of addiction and explained its impact on the brain, answering many of our burning questions along the way. This time, he will be discussing the differences and implications of decriminalization versus legalization, offering his expert insights on this important topic.

Additionally, Dr. Parker will have copies of his book, Trapped by the High, available for sale.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with Dr. Parker and deepen your understanding of these critical issues.

For those who cannot attend in person, the Zoom login for the meeting is Meeting ID 780 222 3440 Passcode Mayfield

Getting outside and soaking up some sunshine can do wonders for our mental and physical well-being. Sunlight exposure helps regulate our circadian rhythms, improving sleep patterns and overall mood. Additionally, sunlight stimulates the production of vitamin D in our bodies, essential for bone health and immune function.

Embrace the summer and its sunny days! Just a 20-minute walk in the sunshine can uplift your spirits and leave you feeling refreshed and energized. So, why not take advantage of the beautiful weather and enjoy some time outdoors? Your mind and body will thank you for it!
