Our speaker on September 11 was our own Zaheer Lakhani who gave an interesting presentation on Fraud in Medicine. Zaheer shared a few stories of 'doctors gone bad', including Dr. Harold Shipman who acted as a compassionate caregiver but was later found to be a serial killer of his patients. He also spoke to the link between vaccination and autism which was found to originate from research that was later proven to be inaccurate.

Step up to the Microphone
You may be aware that our Prez Jeanette will be away temporarily as she takes some needed family time. If you would like to take a turn behind the podium and chair the weekly luncheon meeting, please email Maureen at mliviniuk@gmail.com to get added to the schedule.
District Conference - People of Action
There is still time to register for the People of Action District Conference taking place in beautiful Grande Prairie AB on Oct 3-5.  All the information on the international caliber speakers and accommodations is included on the People of Action conference website. Our own Grant Schneider is working on bus transportation to and from GP. Email grant at grant@aligrawineandspirits.com for details. Traditionally our club has provided some financial support for members who attend the district conference. While the budget has not yet been set, let Sue know if you attend as there will likely be some form of reimbursement.

Save the Date - Backyard BBQ at River Cree
Join your fellow Rotarians and guests October 22, 5:30 pm at The Kitchen Buffet at River Cree for their Backyard BBQ Buffet. Cost will be approx. $20 plus beverages. Please RSVP to Carisa at carisa.britton@yahoo.ca by October 15.
Bahama Disaster Relief
At our last meeting, discussion took place regarding a desire to donate to the Bahamas disaster relief. We have since learned that there is not yet a means by which Canadian Rotarians can make a charitable donation directly to the Bahamas disaster relief.

Following are suggestions for members who would like to make a personal donation:
1. To donate by Wire Transfer directly to the islands go to Bahamas Rotary Disaster Committee (Note that this will be directed to the Bahamas but will not be issued an Official   Receipt for tax purposes in Canada)
Important Note: please be sure to advise in advance, the following details of funds being remitted to the Bahamas:
• Name of Sender
• Amount of Remittance
• Notify rotarybahamasrelief@gmail.com
2. Make your donation through The Rotary Foundation (Canada) at myrotary.org and select 'Disaster Relief Fund'. This will not be directed specifically to the Bahamas but will be used for disaster relief throughout the world and will be issued a tax receipt.
3. Make your donation through ShelterBox Canada www.shelterboxcanada.org, an organization supported by our club which provides emergency relief in disaster situations, which again will be issued a tax receipt.
