Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16th. This session will be an opportunity to review our current International Projects, reflect on our priorities, and discuss future initiatives. The conversation will be facilitated by our International Services Director, Zaheer Lakhani.

We look forward to your insights and participation.

Last Meeting Recap

At our last meeting, members shared personal highlights and key takeaways from both the District and Rotary International conferences. It was a meaningful discussion that allowed us to reflect on what we’ve learned and how these experiences can inspire our continued service.

We were also thrilled to officially induct Basel Abou Hamrah as a new member of our IMPACT Club—welcome, Basel!

In addition, we had the pleasure of welcoming two visiting Rotarians from Uganda, David Ggava and George Ntabi.

David Ggava, from the Rotary Club of Kasubi in Kampala.

George Ntabi, from the Rotary Club of Kampala.

Presentation of the Rotary “Above and Beyond” award to Rose Elliot

We were proud to present the Above and Beyond Award to Rose Elliot, whose energy and dedication have made an extraordinary impact in just a few short months.

Since joining RCEM on December 6, 2023, Rose has jumped headfirst into service. As Club Services Director, she’s brought new energy and organization to our meeting programming. She traveled to Mexico in 2024 to support the Project Amigo ESL program, introduced a student sponsorship initiative, and even became a sponsor herself.

She’s also led our involvement in the Indigenous Speaker Series, ensuring that we continue to engage in important conversations and learning. And week after week, she’s been hands-on with meeting setup and teardown, working side-by-side with Dean to keep things running smoothly.

Rose, thank you for your leadership, commitment, and above all, your heart for service. You’ve made a lasting impression on our club, and we’re so grateful to have you.

Rotary Team Excellence Award – Fork It Over Committee

At our Changeover Dinner, we introduced the Rotary Team Excellence Award, celebrating members who exemplify the spirit of the Quiet Rotarian, those who make a big impact without seeking the spotlight.

This year’s award went to the dedicated team behind Fork It Over, a key fundraising event and highlight of our club year. Their leadership, organization, and behind-the-scenes work have made this event a continued success.

Honoured with the Quiet Rotarian Pin:

  • Lorne Wight
  • Ted Lelacheur
  • Maureen Liviniuk
  • Jim Galpin

Thank you for your ongoing dedication and quiet excellence!

Rotarian of the Year Award

During our Changeover Dinner, we had the great honour of recognizing Ted Lelacheur as our Rotarian of the Year, an award reserved for members whose exceptional commitment and long-standing service have made a lasting impact on our club.

Ted is one of our charter members, a founding force behind the Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield. Decades later, he continues to serve with the same heart and purpose that helped shape our beginnings. Ted is a steady, thoughtful presence, deeply committed to Rotary’s mission and values.

He is known for asking the important questions, offering insights that help us grow wiser as a club. He brings not only wisdom but also a wonderful sense of humour.

Thank You for Joining Our Changeover Dinner!

A big thank you to everyone who attended our Changeover Dinner! It was a fantastic evening to celebrate the members who go above and beyond, and to connect with the newest members of our IMPACT Club.

If you have any photos you'd like to share, we'd love to see them! And if you’d like to take a look at the photos from the evening, check them out here.

Help Us Celebrate 50 Years of Service

For the past few months, our 50th Anniversary Committee has been gathering stories, photos, and memories from members to create a commemorative project that reflects who we are and the impact we’ve made together.

Your voice matters. Every memory shared helps us tell the full story of our club’s legacy. This week, Maureen interviewed our charter members—Ted Lelacheur, Frank Bell, and Jim Galpin—as part of this meaningful project.

If you haven’t yet, please take a few minutes to contribute using this Form. Whether it’s a favourite event, a powerful moment of service, or a photo that brings back memories, we’d love to include it.

Have questions? Reach out to Jim Galpin, our Club Historian.

Volunteers Needed: Financial Review
Maureen is looking for two members to help review the financial records from the past Rotary year. This review is done online at your own convenience, with a target completion date of August 31.

If you’re interested or have any questions, please reach out to Maureen directly.

Self-Care Corner

Take 10 for you

Rotary members are known for giving their time and energy to others—but don’t forget to take 10 minutes for yourself this week. Whether it's a walk around the block, a quiet coffee, or a moment to breathe deeply and reflect, those small breaks can recharge your spirit and keep your service sustainable.

Remember: You can’t pour from an empty cup. Prioritize yourself so you can keep showing up for others.

How can we tell our story?

If you are working on a project or event or if you want to share your Rotary journey with others, we want to hear about it. And if you attend an event, take pictures or videos and send them to Victoria. We will use these for social media and bulletin posts.
Are you an established professional who wants to make positive changes in your community and the world? Our club members are dedicated people who share a passion for community service and friendship.
We invite you to join us at an upcoming meeting.
