Annual Holiday Lunch at Brightview School

We are thrilled to host our Annual Holiday Lunch at Brightview Elementary School, and we warmly invite you to join us as a volunteer! This festive event provides a delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings for Brightview’s students and staff and is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the holiday spirit alongside Rotary members, honorary members, partners, and friends.

When:
📅 Wednesday, December 18, 2024
🕚 Arrival at 11:15 AM, with lunch service beginning at 11:45 AM. Serving and cleanup may continue past 1:00 PM, but you’re welcome to stay for as long as you can.

Where:
📍 Brightview Elementary School
15425 106 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5P 0W3
(Entrance is on the north side of the building. Please use the doorbell to be screened by school administration before entering.)

We’re aiming for around 15 volunteers to assist in serving the meal and spreading holiday cheer. You’re welcome to bring along a spouse, friend, or neighbour!

Last Meeting Recap 

On December 4th, we visited Wings of Providence, an incredible organization empowering families across central and northern Alberta since 1987.

WINGS provides a safe haven and essential support for women and children transitioning from situations of domestic abuse toward independence.

About WINGS: 

  • WINGS operates the only second-stage shelter in Alberta for women and their families, offering transitional housing for 6 months to 2 years.
  • Their second-stage shelter features 20 apartment suites, and their Home Next Door building includes 29 suites, where families continue their journey to independence.
  • Support includes group and individual counselling, life-skills and health programs, and an on-site daycare to help women return to work or school.

We're thrilled to welcome Marie-Laure Polydore, Business Development Manager at Futupreneur. 

Futurpreneur is a national, non-profit organization that provides collateral-free financing, mentorship and resources to diverse young entrepreneurs, aged 18-39, looking to start or grow their business in Canada. With a mandate to help young entrepreneurs bring their business ideas to life, Futurpreneur provides bilingual (English and French) support and resources to help business owners start and succeed. Founded in 1996, the organization was established to promote entrepreneurship among Canadian youth as a critical pillar for diversifying the economy, generating employment opportunities, and fostering a sustainable future. Since then, Futurpreneur has supported more than 18,900 diverse young entrepreneurs launch small and growing businesses across Canada.

FoMD Global Health Fundraiser
 

 

Join the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry's Global Health Program for their annual fundraiser, supporting international training opportunities for residents and faculty from partner sites and activities of the Medical Students Association (MSA).

📅 When: Wednesday, February 5, 2025, 5:00–9:00 PM
📍 Where: Bernard Snell Hall

Enjoy hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, a silent auction featuring student artwork and sports tickets, a keynote address, and entertainment from the MSA's Syncope Band.

Our club plans to send two representatives. If you'd like to participate, please contact Maureen.

 

Upcoming Rotary International Conference in Calgary

With the Rotary International Conference taking place in Calgary this June, District 5370 Rotarians are encouraged to seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to attend.

To minimize travel costs, the District has decided to host two mini-conferences: one in Edmonton and one in Lloydminster. The Edmonton conference will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 24 & 25, 2025, at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) PIC Building. The conference will cover important topics including:

  • Human Rights
  • Indigenous Culture & Resilience
  • Community Service Agencies
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Registration is now open and our club will reimburse up to $350 per member to assist with expenses.
