Next Meeting

At our next meeting on December 3rd, the Principal of Brightview School will join us to share how our club’s ongoing support has positively impacted their students and school community.

We are also happy to share that Jason Gregor of AM 1440 Sports Radio will once again include Brightview School as a recipient of the proceeds from one of his auction items in his December “Month of Giving” campaign.

For those who cannot attend in person, the Zoom login for the meeting is Meeting ID 780 222 3440 Passcode Mayfield

Remember: our meetings are open to non-members too! If you have a friend who would like to participate, be sure to invite them.

Last Meeting Recap

At our last meeting, we had the pleasure of hearing from three outstanding students who received the Buski Lakhani bursaries and spent time volunteering abroad through Global Brigades.

Victoria Johnson shared her experience in a small community in Guatemala, where she worked with the Medical Chapter to set up a temporary clinic alongside doctors, dentists, and optometrists, bringing essential care to people with limited access to health services.

Jaden Coscarella and Riley Sarrasin spoke about their work in Panama through the Public Health Chapter. Their team helped local families by building eco-stoves, latrines, and water storage units, improvements that support long-term health and safety in the community.

Their stories were thoughtful, inspiring, and a reminder of how these bursaries empower young leaders to create meaningful global impact.

Update from the Miss Vicky 2026 Challenge Team

Lee and Winston reached out to share their appreciation for our club’s support in sponsoring their stay at Mike Brandingen’s condo during their recent visit to Edmonton. Although Miss Vicky didn’t make it across the border due to an engine issue, they still had a productive and enjoyable trip connecting with local Rotarians.

They also shared exciting progress: their campaign has reached $73,257, putting them just shy of completing their second $25,000 match for PolioPlus.

They send their thanks and warm regards to all Mayfield members.

Jasper Place Interact Club Update

On November 25, Donna Barrett (Rotary Club of Edmonton Sunrise) and Mark Lindsay (Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield) attended the Jasper Place High School Interact Club meeting. The club is off to a strong start this year, with approximately 56 members and about 30 students attending each meeting.

The students are gearing up for their major project: Holiday Hampers, timed with the school’s Rebel Days. This year, the club is shifting from boxes and large containers to reusable bags to reduce costs and make deliveries easier. Collection begins Monday, December 1, and hampers will be delivered during the week of December 15–19.

How you can help:

  • The Interact Club needs drivers to help deliver the hampers.

  • They’re also looking for one or two volunteers to assist with organizing and sorting items.

  • If you have reusable bags to donate, please bring them to the December 3 Mayfield Rotary meeting or coordinate with Mark Lindsay.

Donna and Mark also shared an overview of Rotary, how Interact fits into the broader organization, and answered thoughtful questions from students. There was strong interest in Rotary programs, including the Rotary Youth Leadership Experience.

The Jasper Place Interact Club is proudly co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edmonton Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield.

Fork It Over 2026

A friendly reminder that as we begin planning Fork It Over (FIO) 2026, we have a few questions we need your input on. If you haven’t shared your feedback yet, please do so as soon as possible. Your insights will help shape next year’s event.

  1. Dates: We are looking at May 2 or 9 and October 17. Please advise if there are any of these dates when you would not be available, and if there is one of these dates which is preferable.
  2. Committee: Many hands make light work, and we are looking for committee members to help in the planning and organizing of this event. We have openings for committee chair, sponsorships, logistics, communications, auction, Brightview liaison, decorating...
  3. Changes: If you have attended FIO in the past and have suggestions for improvement, please provide your comments.

Lead with Seeds Fundraiser Update

Exciting news! The Lead with Seeds 2025 Fall Fundraiser has raised almost $18,000 to support education and sustainable agroforestry programs in Honduras.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, donated, or helped spread the word.

Rotary connections

Our Club President Arif Alibhai met with Dr. Arnold Kibuuka (centre), a pediatrician from Uganda who trained in Edmonton through support from the Rotary Club of Edmonton Mayfield and the Rotary Club of Edmonton Sunrise. Today, Dr. Kibuuka continues to make an incredible impact, not only as a pediatrician, but also as the founder of a kindergarten in Kampala serving children with special needs. He shared how his time with Rotarians in Edmonton inspired his ongoing commitment to service and community development.

Also pictured (right) is Rotarian David Ggava, who visited our club in June. During Arif’s visit, David joined him in touring Arnold’s school, and his home club, the Rotary Club Of Kasubi, will now be supporting Arnold’s work locally.

Share Your Rotary Story!

Every Rotarian has a story, whether you are just starting your journey or have decades of experiences that have shaped your service and leadership. Your moments of connection, challenge, and purpose are what make Rotary truly extraordinary.

We invite all members to craft a Personal Expression Statement celebrating the impact Rotary has had in your life and the difference you’ve made through Rotary.

Your Task (200 words or less):

  • If you’re new to Rotary, reflect on your inspiration—your “why.”

  • If you’re a seasoned member, reflect on your journey: your first sparks of interest, experiences that shaped your growth, challenges that became opportunities, and your contributions to local and global communities.

Use this link to submit your story.

Your story matters, and this is your chance to capture your Rotary journey and inspire others!
